I'm glad you liked Arrival as much as I did, because it offers a chance to discuss where it breaks down.

I was disappointed how the daughter's death changed from a choice in the story to a passive illness in the film. The loop of protective mom (who knows her kid's accidental death) creating the risk-taking impulse in the daughter brought home the true paradox in a way that the movie didn't.

I did, however, really love that the linguist and physicist married and rapidly divorced. Post trauma life-affirming romance can be short-lived, too.
