I think PTSD after traumatic childbirth is definitely a thing, but often a very distinct thing from PPD (which can follow quite easy births, after all). I've had PTSD after a traumatic childbirth (short reassuring version: baby was fine, I was fine after a while), and I've had ordinary depression at other times in my life, and they seemed to me very different experiences; I would expect PPD to be way more like ordinary depression. Which is of course not to say that people mightn't experience both at the same time.

I remember my mother pointing out to me once, when I said something was "just hormonal," that "All emotions are hormonally mediated. That's how emotions work."

Miscellaneous. Eclectic. Random. Perhaps markedly literate, or at least suffering from the compulsion to read any text that presents itself, including cereal boxes.
