Interesting; I have opposite preferences from you about music despite a similar starting-point. Because I'm very verbal, I find music with words a distraction; it's almost as hard to not listen to it as it is for you and me to not read text. So I enjoy music with words if I'm *just* listening to music (which I rarely get to do these days) or if I'm doing a mindless task like housework. But if I have to concentrate on something, especially a verbal task, then I prefer silence, and if I had to have music I'd choose instrumental music.
I'm not as musically literate as you, so rather than finding instrumental music distracting because I'd need to concentrate on it to appreciate it properly, I don't really know how to appreciate it properly at all. So it's pleasant background noise, but too boring to devote all my attention to.

Soundbite

Miscellaneous. Eclectic. Random. Perhaps markedly literate, or at least suffering from the compulsion to read any text that presents itself, including cereal boxes.
