I knew that the first dance would be the only time that I got to pay attention Colin all day, so I insisted on having one. (Actually, we drove to the reception by ourselves too but I didn't predict that, and we did get a whole honeymoon after leaving the reception at 11ish.) Had I known that he was going to lose his ring and we were going to have a whole new wedding* just for me, I might not have been so insistent and I don't know what we'd have done.
As for the legal thing, did you see how those
Colombians got around the problem
? I don't know whether something similar might be possible here, I just don't know enough about family law etc. But you're right, I don't want to do the legal marriage thing again.
*technically a vow renewal, as a blessing of the ring. I wonder whether I could get my tattoo blessed similarly were I to ever get the wedding ring tattoo I'm vaguely planning.
