Verdict: Very cool, really quite subtle and intricate.

Reasons for listening to it: I already knew some Joy Division (thanks, Russian M), which I'm fond of, so I thought I might sample some more.

How it came into my hands: Library

This album impressed me quite a lot, and it's growing on me the more I listen to it. The first thing I noticed about it was that I kept trying to listen to the backing tracks; it's a lot more subtle than the usual adrenalin-inducing repetitive drum beat. In general, there's a lot of variation within the album, but it feels as if it fits together as a whole, it's not just a jumble of random songs.

She's lost control is really outstanding. The lyrics are complex, almost to the point of being narrative, which always appeals to me, but it's a musical whole, not a story set to music. And it's almost catchy, which is not quite what one expects from this sort of genre! I'm also rather taken with the final track, I remember nothing, which is incredibly atmospheric, almost eerie.

I think I might look out for a copy of this one to own.
