I didn't think you were trying to be pretentious, but probably the source you got it from was. When I was a kid we used to say shana tova, a good year, and easy fast. Now everybody's showing off with complicated Hebrew phrases: l'shana tova umetuka, for a good and sweet year, and l'shana tova tikatevu utichatemu, may you be written and sealed for a good year, and gmar tov vechatima tova, a good conclusion and a good seal... IMO the point is the general happy sentiment, and happy new year is really quite good enough for me!
Miscellaneous. Eclectic. Random. Perhaps markedly literate, or at least suffering from the compulsion to read any text that presents itself, including cereal boxes.
