Verdict: Ambient is original and highly disturbing.
Reasons for reading it: I've read several others in the same series, and Heathern and Random acts of senseless violence impressed me greatly.
How it came into my hands: I found it more or less by accident due to wandering into a Toronto bookshop to escape from the torrential rain. Which bookshop turned out to be a gay bookshop with a rather good SF section.
