liv: Table laid with teapot, scones and accoutrements (yum)

I turned 28 yesterday. I was expecting a quiet, dull day, since nobody much is around on my birthday, and I had some work I was just going to get on with. But in fact my colleague RS spontaneously invited me to dinner, and I had a great evening at her place.

Also, I got birthday messages in various formats from my family (emails and ecards), [livejournal.com profile] lethargic_man (a physical birthday card in Arabic which actually arrived on the correct day, amazingly, as well as a text message), [livejournal.com profile] rysmiel (birthday card), [livejournal.com profile] ploni_bat_ploni (funky multi-coloured email), [livejournal.com profile] pseudomonas (email) and [livejournal.com profile] darcydodo (phonecall). [livejournal.com profile] lethargic_man and [livejournal.com profile] rysmiel even gave me bookies as well, so I've done exceedingly well this birthday. Yay for telecommunications, and yay for friends getting in touch with me.

Oh, sorry. I did not know that you had birthday. I should have checked on my profile.
Happy birthday! I hope you had a joyful day.

I am just ill again. I have my usual sinusitis which I always get when it is getting cold.

I could not know it. You did not register your birthday on LJ. I don't care so much about birthdays. I did not put on my LJ either.

Glad your birthday was enjoyable and that you received my email. What did you do for the rest of the day?

But there's more: this Shabbos I will have a gift waiting for you at the Shabbos tish...*

(*Halachic geekery note: I learnt halachot with my friend Hillel in Israel and found out I was being too machmir on the not-tearing thing. Apparently, I learnt, one is allowed to tear for the specific purpose of opening a package and using its content (provided it ain't muktzah). Duh. I never knew that. Anyway, to make a long story short: I, therefore, am quite happy to give you your birthday present this Shabbos and see you unwrap it! :-D)

*Hugs*

I hope you liked the book. I came across it (a single photocopied page) in a Marom Beit Midrash session, and instantly knew I had to read the rest. You can read my review of it here (http://lethargic-man.livejournal.com/82959.html), which until now was locked specifically to stop you from reading it. (I had to keep removing it from my bookshelf too in between getting it and giving a copy to my brother for his birthday, every time he came around.)

How could it be on an even day of the month? She's just entirely odd! :P

Because the 28th is the Feast of the Holy Innocents, which seems awfully appropriate.

You don't know me, but I hope you had a Happy Birthday. I am a friend of lethargic_man.

It was my friend's birthday on 26th December and my other friend's yesterday.
