YA literature matters
Mar. 29th, 2011 04:32 pmEssays that have made me weep in the past couple of days:
-
deliasherman's tribute to Diana Wynne Jones. See also Pamela Dean and Neil Gaiman.
-
azurelunatic on playing the pronoun game (a response to the controversy over a YA anthology rejecting stories with same sex romance.)
-
rm on Buffy and Glee.
- Rediscovering
diceytillerman's blog. She's done a whole bunch of stonking posts recently, on The Secret Garden and how it's wonderful but also incredibly cringey and problematic, a very intelligent analysis of The Hunger Games, a thing on using pain in narratives... But it's not any one post, it's just the fact that the blog exists, doing serious analysis of kids' and YA books, nothing ostentatious, but quietly teaspooning away at body hatred, racism and ableism.
The world is getting better, but not always fast enough.
