I had a really great weekend in Brighton celebrating my little sister's 26th.

I arrived a bit later than planned, and P'tite Soeur fed me some tasty noodle soup, even though she was also running late. She wore the most amazing dress, bright red, strapless with a flared skirt, and covered in bats!

As soon as she'd finished getting ready, we headed out to a philosophical conundrum of a pub called the pub with no name. This turned out to be too crowded to be fun; P'tite Soeur had only previously been there during the week, and on Saturday night it just wasn't happening. It was also not very wheelchair accessible, though the crowding exacerbated that. So we sent out some scouts to look for a nearby pub that had some space, and ended up in the Dover Castle. They had good drinks, nice cider and various real ale on tap, and plenty of space with several sections, laid out not unlike the Pembury I suppose. A very good place to spend an evening chatting and drinking and eating birthday cake provided by the guests. They also weren't very emphatic about throwing us out after closing time, so we continued chatting (not buying drinks, obviously) until about 1:30.

Spent the night in P'tite Soeur's spare room, and didn't bother waking up until most of Sunday morning had gone. There was a little time for drinking tea and nattering with the other sleepover guests, and then we went back to the Dover Castle for lunch. This turned out not to be such a good decision; although they still had the aforementioned nice drinkies (including, I discovered, real ginger beer with actual alcohol and not too much sugar in it) and plenty of space for a medium-sized party, they had really atrocious service and quite uninspiring food. It was Sunday, so they were only doing roasts, and they took forever to bring them to us as well as messing up the order. They also ran out of everything by 2:30, which is pretty poor form when they claimed to be servicing Sunday lunch until 8 pm! Plus, the food was barely warmed over and mostly resembled school dinner Xmas lunch.

Thuggish Poet turned up about 2 hours late due to train problems, which meant that having the four of us in the same place didn't last very long, because I thought I'd better get going if it was going to take me three hours to get into central London. But hey, it was a very pleasant weekend. Brighton always makes me slightly envious because it's such a great place to go out!

The Three Weeks for Dreamwidth project is over, and looks to me to have been a great success. I got over 1400 comments on my friending meme, namely 10 pages, so I'll be able to fulfil my pledge to buy $1 worth of DW points per page filled up. (I've taken it down from the top of my journal, but it's still there at the original posting date.)

Not this week, though, cos I've spent all my discretionary money on a replacement for my Eee netbook whose screen died on me (upgrading from the 701 model to a second-hand 900 series in shiny black), and on booking tickets for two reunions. Namely the Perse Girls reunion on 19th June, and the Merton weekend on 26th–27th June. I'm going to the latter mainly because the Warden, Dame Jessica Rawson, is leaving the college, and I am a great fan of hers and wanted to be there for her farewell dinner. Let me know if any of you guys are coming to either event, or if you're likely to be around in Cambridge between 17th and 20th June or in Oxford the following weekend.
