Totally agree that (oppressed) people can't shoulder the burden of Being a Role Model all the time. I'm not naturally shouty at all, I'm by inclination and upbringing an appeaser. And that's purely because I'm a bit naively optimistic about basic human goodness and think that most prejudice is down to misunderstanding. I'm certainly not going to criticize anyone else for choosing not to be shouty when many people have much more serious reasons than I do. Safety is one, simply not having the time and energy to always be the nice, polite, conciliatory educator is another.
