Liv describes the process of research as "mostly unproductive" rather than, say, "an interesting puzzle," and characterizes writing as "soul destroying." So, it seems she's chosen the wrong career path, and that's too bad for her. However, my experience differed. I found graduate school stimulating and thought-provoking, and while sometimes stressful, hardly "soul-killing." I also note that as full time uni faculty, even at my not-exactly-competing-with-Oxford-or-Harvard institution, I love my job to bits: I can't wait for vacations to end so I can get back to work; I look forward to my office on Monday. A job like that is a prize worth risk and sacrifice.
Miscellaneous. Eclectic. Random. Perhaps markedly literate, or at least suffering from the compulsion to read any text that presents itself, including cereal boxes.
