Huh, Reddit. I always forget about Reddit and similar community-based discussion sites! Thank you for bringing that up. It seems like that is maybe the direct inheritor of Usenet more than from LJ, both for good (very free, unmoderated space, pseudonymous, encourages detailed, topic-centred discussion) and for ill (belligerent culture, inclined to get overrun by zealots and fanatics).
