Really good point about the archiving thing. I think some people specifically prefer very ephemeral social media; they feel liberated by not having to be afraid that some chance off-the-cuff remark will come back to haunt them in years to come, which I think was one of the blocking factors in the early days of Web 2.0. (Even Usenet had the whole X-no-archive thing, didn't it?)
I am really barely aware of people trying to have SJ conversations on Tumblr. It seems like a terrible idea for several reasons, but your account does certainly weigh up against the theory that people like Tumblr because they only get likes so it's more positive than traditional blogging.
Miscellaneous. Eclectic. Random. Perhaps markedly literate, or at least suffering from the compulsion to read any text that presents itself, including cereal boxes.
