I think what you're saying has always been true. Except that maybe now it isn't, because the computing power exists to literally read and analyse all the web traffic in the world, to pick out patterns and keywords for further scrutiny, to use NLP to identify the communications that need human oversight. I am not sure about this; I know that computing capacity can be exaggerated and true NLP is a hard problem. But I no longer feel completely sanguine about this sort of safety in numbers approach. I definitely take your point about drawing attention; that's part of why I'm not even trying with crypto because it will just look like I have something to hide, and I doubt I can do it well enough to actually hide.
