Ooh, thanks for this comment, it's really great to hear your thoughts on this! Don't worry about not seeing it before, I hardly expect you to hang on my every word, and I'm a believer in keeping conversations alive for longer than the day or so before they float off reading pages.
Really interesting about your inter-faith relationship, and some perspective from the less religious half of a couple! I do sometimes find that spending a lot of time with convinced atheists or people on a very different religious path from mine strengthens my commitment to Judaism, yeah, because they present arguments against and I remember why I don't accept those arguments. But I haven't had much of that with jack, because basically he assumes (correctly) that I've heard all the standard atheist gotcha arguments before so doesn't bother reiterating them. Explaining stuff to him does help a bit, but it's kind of one-sided.
Another thing I want to do more when I get back to Britain is get involved in interfaith dialogue again, because that really does help strengthen my religious commitments. So in theory I'd be interested in alextiefling's non-denominational religious discussion group. I'm a little cautious, though, cos I've done my stints being the token non-Christian to make a bunch of liberal Christians feel good about themselves, and I am not quite at that place in my life right now. If the group happens, can I lurk for a bit and see if it feels comfortable? I think having you involved and some others who are something other than Christian or ex-Christian would make it a lot more plausible for me.
Miscellaneous. Eclectic. Random. Perhaps markedly literate, or at least suffering from the compulsion to read any text that presents itself, including cereal boxes.
