Yes, that's a really good description. I'm ok with Angel having flaws, I'm not ok with his stalkery exploitative behaviour being portrayed as good and romantic. I think you're right that I'm leaning towards seeing Angel as a real person whom I would consider completely untrustworthy if I met them in real life, whereas another option would be to say, that's a flaw in the writing, it's not really in character for Angel to behave like that.
