Date: 2014-08-04 10:19 am (UTC)I saw a number of the same weaknesses as you did, but I thought most of them were handled better in the second book, Two Serpents Rise - I read that one first, mistaking the order, and found this one thinner and less thematically satisfying in comparison. So I hope you'll like that one, when you get to it!
