That makes sense, that you prefer compliments that are rare. I think when I was younger and not really together, appearance-wise, appearance compliments were so rare I didn't really believe them, they just didn't match my self-image at all. Somebody complimented me on my diplomacy recently, and I was like, really, me, diplomatic?! But I think it's a good compliment because it doesn't just reinforce something I'm already confident of.

I do wonder why you get few appearance compliments; possibly it fits my theory that people don't compliment men's appearance very much in general, but there could of course be other factors.
