There are definitely situations where I have to get friends to explain some Christian background to me. But I think Lewis wasn't trying to convert Quaker children, I think was trying to help children who already basically believed in his sort of Christianity to understand the NT stories better. But I can completely see where his allegory is both too opaque and too obvious.
