Ooh, excellent suggestions. I approve of folk clubs in principle so I should in fact actually try going to some. I don't know if I want to go on a course or join a club, maybe, but at least at first I want to just play at home when I have a spare moment, or do scratch things with friends, rather than anything more organized.
I would very much like to play duets, and will try not to think of you as too scary because you're a real professional musician. Like lots of other things it needs a way to overcome geography, but you know.
I really, really appreciate the suggestion of playing along with the alto singers. That's probably a lot more feasible than looking for stuff arranged specifically for a mixture of voice and recorder. Being able to sight read reasonably well was always my one advantage when I'm otherwise not very musically competent, and I bet with a little practice I could learn to transpose in my head.
And yes, playing an instrument after such a long hiatus is just amazingly good for me.
Miscellaneous. Eclectic. Random. Perhaps markedly literate, or at least suffering from the compulsion to read any text that presents itself, including cereal boxes.
