Dear Brexiters,

I hope you enjoy your blue passports and your non-bonging bell. I hope it was worth costing the economy more in 5 years of wrangling over the referendum result than we spent on EU membership in nearly 5 decades. I hope it was worth gambling the NHS, their ability to hire enough staff to provide safe care and to negotiate good prices for medicines.

I hope you are pleased at driving away young, economically active Europeans and bringing back a bunch of retired British people. When you can't find a plumber or a care worker, I hope you find satisfaction in knowing that at least no British person was done out of a job by a ~foreigner~.

Extra-special fuck you to lexit ideologues who decided that only the 'elites' need freedom of movement, only 'capitalists' will suffer in a generational recession, and only 'the bourgeois' will lose their supposedly cushy jobs and feel the effects of unpicking labour rights. You flirted with fascism as an 'alternative to the neo-liberal consensus', and you are still hoping that entrenching more people in worse poverty will somehow magically lead to socialism.

I hope it was worth betraying Scotland, Northern Ireland, Gibraltar, the Falklands, London and the entire younger generation. I hope it was worth the harm and misery caused to immigrants, brown people and three million of our fellow European citizens. And the fear and loss caused to most of my friends and me.

You won. You got your "sovereignty". I hope it chokes you.

(If you want a somber, informed analysis, try [livejournal.com profile] nwhyte's Reflections on Brexit day. The above is just an existential scream, really.)

I'm watching from afar in the US, but the whole thing makes me so sad. It's so pointless and will achieve nothing. I'm so sorry.

In fact betraying most of those living in cities in the UK as well, since most of the major cities voted remain.
Well said!

It is a good existential scream. I am so, so angry at so many people and institutions about this.

"You got your "sovereignty". I hope it chokes you."

I like this.

I am not inclined to be "understanding" of people's "concerns", and how they were "left behind" and so on. If they think Brexit is going to make everything right for them, they're fools.

My job has gone to Dublin, as part of the "Brexit Dividend".

I board my flight to the Republic on Sunday evening.

I will be back at weekends and, indeed, some weeks - there is so much of my life in Britain - but my economic life has been expelled from Brexitstan.

[personal profile] emceeaich says that 3FE on Grand Canal Street has excellent coffee. Hope to see you in Dublin one day. We are seriously considering someplace in the EU to get away from 45 evil.

I took coffee there, at 3FE, when I was there at a convention back in August.

Alas, the bank I work for didn't take office space on the waterfront, along with all the others: we're in a business park away around the M50.

I'm sure the space is cheaper, but I suspect the 'Pull Factor' was that my professional colleagues, in our rival banks in the Docks end of the city, know the bars and clubs along the waterside a bit too well, and far too many of them have turned up to work with hangovers.

Yeah, I could see a high hangover factor on the Docks, and Temple Bar is just a Luas ride and a short bridge crossing away.

With Dublin housing prices, hopefully your company is paying for it!

Nope. Or rather, *my* company is paying.

If there were some way of making all of them understand exactly what they've done and requiring them to feel the full consequences of it, without hurting any of the people who didn't want this to happen, I hope they all have that delightful experience.

Miscellaneous. Eclectic. Random. Perhaps markedly literate, or at least suffering from the compulsion to read any text that presents itself, including cereal boxes.
