Have to confess I was already wondering about how that in-at-the-deep-end beginning really tied in with safeguarding responsibilities when they don't have a firm grasp of your individual resilience yet*, and that metaphor doesn't make me feel any more comfortable about it.

* ETA: and ability to say 'no' to a commitment that seems overwhelming!
