liv: Table laid with teapot, scones and accoutrements (yum)

This weekend was [livejournal.com profile] doseybat and [livejournal.com profile] compilerbitch's housewarming. It was also my parents' 28th wedding anniversary, so congratulations to them.

The party was brilliant fun, even by the usual standards of [livejournal.com profile] doseybat's parties. It was extremely social, a really great mix of people I know well with new people and people I have vaguely met and am in the process of getting to know. [livejournal.com profile] compilerbitch made real food (some most excellent curry), which already elevated the occasion above typical parties. [livejournal.com profile] timeplease provided cherry and raspberry beer, which didn't hurt at all. Also [livejournal.com profile] doseybat and [livejournal.com profile] compilerbitch's new place is really very nice indeed.

Lots of cool people, but most excitingly for me, HH (WINOLJ I think) showed up briefly. She is a very lovely person and a kindred spirit, but I'd kind of lost touch with her because I know her through my ex ID with whom I am not really in contact. And also because I've been rubbish about keeping in touch with her more directly. So very exciting to see her again.

The number of people from different parts of my life [livejournal.com profile] doseybat knows is getting scary. But it was nice to see [livejournal.com profile] karen2205 in person for the first time in years. [livejournal.com profile] fluffymark continues fluffy and stroky, and [livejournal.com profile] timeplease continues cute and flirtable. And it's always good to see [livejournal.com profile] lethargic_man.

[livejournal.com profile] compilerbitch and [livejournal.com profile] doseybat very kindly invited me to stay over on Sunday after the remains of the party had departed. I was very glad indeed to get the chance to talk to them properly; I am incredibly fond of them both and we have the kind of conversations that are only possible with really good friends. Plus [livejournal.com profile] compilerbitch made us proper food Sunday evening, by which time I was really craving lettuce.

This morning [livejournal.com profile] compilerbitch gave me a lift to Cambridge (and showed me her office in the computer lab). Then I met up with [livejournal.com profile] lyssiae who is indeed a very fun person. We went to the bit of the illuminated manuscripts exhibition that is in the UL, (since the Fitzwilliam is annoyingly closed on Mondays). And then to Clowns for a very tasty lunch (homemade Italian-style raspberry icecream that tasted almost more intensely of raspberries than the actual fruit. Just wow.) And we chatted the whole time and it was all delightful. Yay cool LJ connections.

OK, I'm not liking the insane humidity and I'm kind of tired (understatement). But that was an extremely lovely long weekend.

Hello! Who are you?

The new pub is half-built at the moment; photos are here (http://www.individualpubs.co.uk/pembury/construction.html). I should be able to add more pictures on Wednesday.

hello! i'm, er, me. you know me via doseybat, livredor and join-the-dots, first met at doseybat's party in the winter. i've been to the oakdale a few times including the winterbeerfest. 'nuff clues?

the interior is loking rather good, and a month on from the photos i expect it's looking better. also you have a very tidy site.

how exciting! i can't wait...

Conference in Cambridge: A certain amount of pounds sterling (NOT paid by my stingy university).
Walking around Cambrige with [livejournal.com profile] livredor for great company: Free!
Getting into the most penisinterestingly-shaped building in Cambridge: Free!

Viewing a letter from Elizabeth I to the University of Cambridge assuring them that just because the country's gone Protestant they will not be treated similarly to churches and religious houses all across the country, beginning with six lines of Latin and then switching into Early Modern English: priceless!

Oooh, sounds wonderful. Wonder if I can find any conferences or other excuses to see Elizabeth-letters and ...there are penis-shaped buildings in Cambridge? And I haven't been there! Hmmm.

Another reason for me to be glad I stayed on, as I didn't really get to talk to you on Saturday, and was tired when I did.

Now I just wish my body was sensible and not refusing to let me catch up on sleep for the second night in the last three.
