OK, so I'm in Melbourne. Flight got in insanely early in the morning, and I really don't know what timezone I'm in anyway. But I'm here and I have tea and internet and cousins.

You're in Melbourne? In search of post-doc employment? Wow. I really should get one of those doctorate thingies. The floppy velvet hat would be rather nice, but the idea of international job opportunities has a certain appeal too.

Probably the best day for me is Thursday, as I'm rather over-programmed for most of the rest of what is a rather fleeting visit. Tomorrow (Sunday) also a possibility.

I never got a floppy velvet hat, cos Scottish universities don't believe in hats. Most disappointing, especially as I'm no longer entitled to wear my BA mortarboard (by virtue of having a higher degree now). But yeah, international job opportunities are cool, and somewhat make up for the total absence of anything resembling job security or a decent salary in academia.

Scottish unis don't believe in floppy velvet hats for doctors?!? What's the world coming to? Is that more of that Methodist/Calvinist austerity, or something else? Either way, I think you're getting ripped off.
