I've friended a whole bunch of people I know slightly. Some through Support, some because they've friended me / and or comment on my posts, some people I've met briefly at parties, some because we have mutual friends and LJ is good at creating connections. My flist feels a little unwieldly at 125; 80 to 100 seems optimal to me personally. But then again, I don't have much I need to do at the moment, and meeting new cool people seems like a good use of my spare time.

So, hi new people. Have some virtual tea (or other virtual beverage if you're one of those tea-hating perverts). Welcome.

I may end up removing people again if I feel like I have too much to read or nothing much in common with some people. And when I get a job I will very likely need to trim my flist quite a lot. So don't take it personally if I unfriend you at some point; it's not a character judgement, just that, well, there's a point where socializing can become a chore rather than fun, and that applies in the virtual sphere too. I don't want to get to that point.

And meanwhile, here is a comment thread for people to introduce themselves (to the rest of the friendslist, if as in many cases I already know who you are). Or ask me a question or two if you want to know something about me. There are no bad questions on this journal, though I might have to be careful about answering if the answer affects other people.

Of course, there's no prohibition on old friends taking part as well, if you feel like it! I'm planning to do another round of the matchmaking game sometime soon, but now that my friends list is scarily huge, it may take a while.

Herbal tea counts, right? :) I don't actually have a tea userpic, so my coffee one will have to do.

Hello, other people! Hello again, [livejournal.com profile] livredor! I'm pretty sure we met when I chained in through someone else's entry (speaking of LJ making connections).

I do have a fun sort of question that I usually get 'round to asking people eventually. What do you find yourself reaching for when you need comfort reading?

Sure. I'm Jessica, I'm a 24 year old mother of two daughters. I live in Boston with my fiancé, [livejournal.com profile] crschmidt, my daughters, and a close friend, [livejournal.com profile] acerbic. I'm a military veteran, a girl who dropped out of secondary school to attend university, a perpetual student reaching for tenure without a degree, a bartender, an emergency medical technician, and as full of surprises as Pandora's box.

Oh, the only reason I'm FO is because I have a very determined stalker. Three years later, they're probably bored, but why give them material? I've always enjoyed your contributions and love reading your entries. I'm pretty liberal with adding people, but even if I started cutting, you would totally stay. :)

(And of COURSE. All newly affianced girls need to show off their status at all times. Including waving their left hand in former suitors' faces. My ex-husband offered to give me away at the wedding. I declined. ;))

I am Sam, an Economics Lecturer in Bristol, England, lefty peace activist, practicing Catholic and Buffy fan (not necessarily in that order).

We do seem to have considerable flist-overlap, so I'm sure, hopefully, we will bump into each other again before too long!

Haha--you know, I've been thinking of renaming, maybe I should go with [livejournal.com profile] cheeseinbed :) Until looking at your userinfo, I always read your username as one word, Livredor, rhyming with Labrador, which perhaps might be a Labrador Retriever that really enjoy liver treats.

Hello, I do physics involving large amounts of laser beams, computing power and gravity. In my spare time, I'm also a tea-hating pervert, but I do occasionally get the mood for Earl Grey or Darjeeling and for some reason milky tea does become a good idea at 10:30am on physics tea breaks, but maybe that's an effect of all those physicists being gathered in one place. Or something. ;)

Your old match-making post appears to have picked up an anonymous comment spam, with a link I've not checked because I suspect it of being a pr0n site which would be a bad thing for me to look at from work; you might want to see if this is happening elsewhere.

And for those on [livejournal.com profile] livredor's friendslist who do not know me, the combination of my userinfo and Ten Things You Ought to Know About Me is probably a reasonable introduction should anyone be interested.

Hello [livejournal.com profile] livredor and flist.

I'm a German student who likes to read interesting lj-posts and is always startled when the interesting people friend her in return.
I also count myself among the tea-hating perverts but make occasional exceptions for green tea.
Oh, and I'm really not so good at introducing myself. So, hi again, everyone.

Hello LivreDOr, and FList.

I am a geeky computer scientist currently recovering from depression. I suppose that my major passions are Otters, Food and Tech. Food and Tech obviously have many subinterests, many of which overlap, but the only subinterest I can think of for Otters is sashimi (which obviously is also a subinterest of food) - if I had a religion, it would probably be sacramental for me. :-)

OK (makes a note) I was capitalising each word.

You'd be surprised by the number of non-geeks on my degree course... Although I suppose they wouldn't identify as computer scientists anymore.

I was trying to come up with something interesting and different... Looks like I succeeded :)

*waves*

I'm a computer consultant in Oxford, having failed to leave there after my degree (and attempt at a DPhil). I like fantasy books and films (especially intelligent stuff), and I'm not adverse to 'Yes Minister'.

I love games (board, card and computer), specifically ones that require thought rather than random chance. I also role-play occasionally, although this may be becoming more frequent this year.

I also do a fair amount of Scottish Country Dancing (although not in the last three months since I had an operation).

Hello livredor and FList!! :)

Hi, I'm Sammee, an Old Mertonian (ha! -- I'm 23!) and am obsessed with musicology and other related academic pursuits. I'm a huge nerd, but I'm also addicted to the Internet. I love that there is so much information only a few clicks away -- it's fantastic!! Right now I live in NJ, near NYC, and try to spend as much time as possible avoiding NJ by taking the train to NYC for cultural pursuits, such as music, theatre, and cuisine. However, since I'm a PhD student in New Jersey and spend a lot of time attending seminars, researching, and writing, I don't get to induldge myself as much as I'd like.

Oh, dear.

Introductions...

Uh, ok. Salient facts:

My one (small) weakness is a mild liking for cats.

Born in San Francisco, California. Raised in San Francisco & surrounding area. Love, love, love living here!
Have never had a Driver License.
Prefer cats to dogs.

Hard-core biblioholic.
Mild OCD.
Mild SLE.
Hypoglycemic.
17 year clean & sober, 15 years without smoking.
Believe cats to be best pets ever.

Interested in religions, faith, mythology, cultures.
Majoring in Biochemistry and Cell & Molecular Biology. (Currently on hiatus to cope with medical issues.)
Hope to earn a graduate degree studying Infectious Diseases.
Think cats are simply great!

Like tea. Also, coffee, ginger beer, and Limonata.
Enjoy simple meals, so long as the ingredients are high quality.
Adore my two kitties.

Sentimental, sometimes; grumpy, most of the time. "Vaguely annoyed" is my emotional ground-state.
Loyal to a fault.
Should mention my fondness for cats.

Share a duplex with my boyfriend.
Chubby but slimming down.
Long blonde hair.
Fluff-bellied kittens are the best thing that ever happened to this planet.

Anyway... I am, as is my wont, rambling. Welcome!

I do need to comment on the 'comfort reading' post but... I'm lazy and scatter-brained. Perhaps this weekend. Unless the kittens need me.

Hi! I found you through [livejournal.com profile] leora and you are well-spoken and interesting, so I may read from time to time :). I'm not much of one for strangers' journals, either, so take from that what you will...

Me: twenty-something Ph.D. student in the northern US; lived in Helsinki for a while; non-academic interests include philosophy (political, ethical, scientific) and random other stuff.

Questions for you: Why Stockholm? Do you like it? (I meant to get there while in Scandinavia, but failed.)

Soundbite

Miscellaneous. Eclectic. Random. Perhaps markedly literate, or at least suffering from the compulsion to read any text that presents itself, including cereal boxes.
