liv: A woman with a long plait drinks a cup of tea (teapot)

I've had a really, really lovely weekend. I spent Friday evening with a really old friend, and we talked about everything from the parlous state of politics to the optimal way of storing underwear, to the extent that we forgot to eat or go to sleep until rather late.

So we had a lie-in, and then headed out to do some vague wandering around London. That included an urban farm, which is rather cool and has baby goats! And lots of time for chatting and stuff. Lunch in some random little vaguely ethnic cafe, and then we got in touch with AN, an old schoolfriend I hadn't spoken to in ages for technical reasons. It was so wonderful to catch up with her; you wouldn't think there was a several years' gap in our ongoing conversation.

All these things meant we arrived rather later at [livejournal.com profile] timeplease's Pembury opening party than we'd intended. But we had a very pleasant time there. I knew a handful of people slightly, so they gave me an excuse to sit down at a table where we were soon joined by some other people I didn't know, but who have connections to the Camgeek scene. Including a rather fascinating matriarchal fandom character named Barbara. Also, I may have consumed some kriek... rather a lot of it in fact.

Thus I arrived at [livejournal.com profile] pseudomonas' party about 2 hours later than I'd planned, and somewhat the worse for wear. It was a very good party, even though I felt as if the alcohol was making me way too stupid for the standard of the company. A bunch of Oxford people were there, NZ and [livejournal.com profile] paulbo_garvins and [livejournal.com profile] kathrid and [livejournal.com profile] loreid. The last persuaded me that leaving half an hour after I'd arrived was dumb, and that I should stay the night. Also met such people as [livejournal.com profile] megamole and [livejournal.com profile] sunflowerinrain whom I was somewhat aware of via LJ but hadn't met in person. And lots of other lovely people but I'm not doing a namecheck here.

This morning [livejournal.com profile] pseudomonas fed us an extremely good cooked breakfast, and I had a chance for some slightly more intelligent conversation than the previous evening. Then I got yelled at for not getting home last night, even though I made a huge effort to be here before Sunday lunch at midday (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] sunflowerinrain). *sigh*

I have had some feedback about the fellowship I'm working on (yay for people getting back to me in the middle of the weekend), so I guess that's what I'll be spending the rest of the afternoon doing.

Ooh, AN? How is she?

Soundbite

Miscellaneous. Eclectic. Random. Perhaps markedly literate, or at least suffering from the compulsion to read any text that presents itself, including cereal boxes.
