Thank you. I'd actually forgotten there are intermediate stages between coloured hair and grey hair, despite the evidence of a single grey hair right now! I was thinking about looking forward to going grey (partly so I can dye my hair purple without having to bleach it), but it will probably take several decades to get to that point. With luck I shall be interestingly mulit-coloured in between :-)
Cool. Certainly, a handful of silver hairs don't go at all amiss, with the mixture of colours my hair has - which seems to range from an almost-black brown like my mother's up to gold and red, particularly this time of year when I'm getting more sun.
It's very strange to see someone so excited about that :) I wouldn't have the chance to make such a discovery at the moment, as I've been dyeing my hair for the past 3 or 4 years. For that reason, it would probably not overly bother me, but I would prefer my hair not to go grey, especially not at the age of 23.
Well, I'm a smidge older than you, for a start. Also, to me it's a bit like getting my period: obviously actual periods are messy and annoying and sometimes painful. But my first one felt like a step on the way to being Grown Up, and my first grey hair is similar, it's a marker of the beginning of a new stage of my life. Even if most of the physical deterioration associated with growing older probably isn't going to be very enjoyable, I'm still excited and curious about getting to experience being middle-aged and old.
I still think most people view their first grey hair with a sense of dread rather than excitement. It's not a bad thing at all that you don't, because excitement is always better than dread! The world would be boring if everyone thought and felt the same way, and one of the things I like about LJ is getting to read about and to know people who are different.
My hair appears to be thinning at the front, particularly at the left. Oh, the indignity: unaesthetic asymmetric baldness! (Won't be for a few more years yet, at any rate.)
Meep. I'm sorry you find the state of your hair undignified and unaesthetic.
I like being in your club though; I prefer to stay the right side of the border of being in the same age-bracket as you, though perhaps my reasons for caring about that aren't terribly sound.
It's not undignified and unaesthetic yet; it's just warning me it's going to head that way. I think it's tempting me to fall for the lure of a combover, but I shall be strong, and resist!
I found my first grey hair at the age of 30. "What's that?", I thought, and then I saw about a dozen of them... and another, and another. Then I gave up: old people get a bit fatalistic about that sort of thing.
What'll make you feel decrepit is finding a pure white hair adding that distinguished Elder-Statesman look to your, er, um... *AHEM* lower down.
Miscellaneous. Eclectic. Random. Perhaps markedly literate, or at least suffering from the compulsion to read any text that presents itself, including cereal boxes.
