  • Most important: [livejournal.com profile] pseudomonas has been discharged from hospital after his operation was successful. Yay.
  • [livejournal.com profile] ploni_bat_ploni is still great. We had a nice evening together yesterday; I've been hiding from the world except on shabbat so it was a nice change to hang out together and be able to spend money.
  • Not unrelatedly, my grant application is done and posted.
  • Sweden has a national day for eating cinnamon buns, which falls next week.
  • The Jewish community is being generally cool. I'm slightly dreading Yom Kippur but you're not exactly supposed to look forward to that!
  • I'm coming to England for the weekend of 4th November so I can go to [livejournal.com profile] doseybat and [livejournal.com profile] compilerbitch's party. And finally break the hex which has been keeping me away from the Oakdale! I'm getting in stupidly late Thursday night and leaving mid-morning Monday, so if people want to see me, Friday is probably best. I'll likely be in Cambridge most of the time I'm not at the party.

A national day for eating cinnamon buns! That's fabulous! I'm hungry for one just thinking about it.

Hey, are you also coming to London to visit lethargic_man and me. Lethargic_man has still the same place. We (snjstar and me) just moved. We are near Brent Cross Station.

I have never seen cinemon buns. How do they look like or how are they made? We get bread, cakes and sometimes other things from a Jewish charity. But I have never seen cinemon buns. I don't think the kosher backeries have it here.

i mention this only because i thought of you - today i spent a few hours wandering spitalfields with a group of students (my charges!) when it started to rain really hard. we had stopped to look at an old synagogue just off bishopsgate so when it really started to pour we headed inside and took shelter just inside the door. city boy types would arrive in ones and twos, give us slightly surprised looks and head inside looking rather more serious. the only practicising jew in the class had the day off for yom kippur so the rest of us, a motley bunch were left to muse rather ignorantly about what was going on. i thought how informative it would have been if you had been there!

Soundbite

Miscellaneous. Eclectic. Random. Perhaps markedly literate, or at least suffering from the compulsion to read any text that presents itself, including cereal boxes.
