liv: Table laid with teapot, scones and accoutrements (yum)

I've spent the past week or so alternately eating exceedingly well and zonking out completely.

Last weekend I spent Friday night chez [livejournal.com profile] ploni_bat_ploni, which was great fun. The following morning we attended the service to say goodbye to the excellent rabbi who is leaving in rather unfortunate circumstances. Then I came home and crashed, couldn't even find the energy to write LJ posts.

Sunday I did some work, then went to a belated Thanksgiving meal hosted by my American colleague RS. That was great fun, and the food and company were equally magnificent. Plus I came home with a big handful of books, because they were surplus from the various collections of the anglophone community here.

The week passed in a bit of a haze; I did some work, and enjoyed various work-related excuses to eat cake, and spent some evenings being too tired to remember to get myself into bed, which of course is a vicious circle. In spite of this, I handled my Swedish oral exam reasonably well. If I feel brave, I may record myself giving my speech so you can all laugh at how bad my Swedish accent is!

Thursday I got my act together enough to prepare food for [livejournal.com profile] ploni_bat_ploni's visit this weekend. Friday was a bit rushed, with shabbat coming in at the absurdly early hour of half past two, and to make it worse I had a lunchtime meeting! The meeting was really productive, but it made things very rushed. Anyway, PbP and I spent a wonderful, delightful shabbat together. We talked ourselves nearly hoarse over the long Friday afternoon, and ended up eating rather late even though we'd brought shabbat in so early. Fish cooked using [livejournal.com profile] lethargic_man's mother's recipe, which was very successful. And parchips and Chinese broccoli salad for the vegetables, couscous and challah (bought, not made!) for the carbs, and plum crumble for dessert.

Slept in this morning and got up too late to pray the morning service, oops. So lunch was in the middle of the afternoon and consisted of a spinach and lentil curry I invented a couple of weeks ago. We did a little bit of studying and lots and lots of chatting in the afternoon, and made a selection of salads for a cold supper after shabbat went out.

Anyway, the combination of being busy with being extremely tired has meant that I haven't had time to post here saying that I'm feeling a lot better after last week's low point. So I hope no-one worried about me unnecessarily. Thank you all for your support and advice and sympathy.

Which is mildly amusing, because I just hosted a meal for five today (it was supposed to be for eight, but I had several people drop out, including one on the walk back from shul) using your and [livejournal.com profile] ploni_bat_ploni's recipes (plus my perennial pumpkin pie).

Yay for exchanging recipes!

I had a wonderful time at Livredor's but of course, my own LJ already mentions that :-) Thanks, Livredor!

*Must go pack for Israel now*

Ep, did not realise you are doing Swedish exams. Is it a formal qualification thing?

Miscellaneous. Eclectic. Random. Perhaps markedly literate, or at least suffering from the compulsion to read any text that presents itself, including cereal boxes.
