Happy New Year, all. I'm really enjoying seeing everybody's retrospectives on 2006 on my flist, so I'll add one of my own:

Significant Events

I spent the first third of the year trying to cram about two years' worth of social life into a few months.

I finally got a post-doc job. []

I moved to Sweden.

I started to learn Swedish.

I discovered lots of hidden cool aspects of the Jewish community here.

Hmm, this year hasn't been characterized by memorable events as such, it's been a gradual transition from the weird unintended gap year I found myself with, to starting the new job and settling in a new country and meeting lots of cool people. Anyway, to continue:

Jack Womack: Random acts of senseless violence

48 books total this year, which is pretty good going considering that I was rationing my reading severely for about 2 months.

It's been a great year for discovering new music, mainly thanks to blue_mai and emusic. Hard to pick just five songs!

I had a very enjoyable NYE, with a some friends of RS's who live right in the grand part of Stockholm and just round the corner from the perfect firework watching spot. It was a highly civilized party, with excellent food and excellent conversation. And the fireworks were great; lots and lots of separate parties who all let off their fireworks simultaneously at midnight, which is a lot more fun than one big firework show.

Definitely we should talk... I can't believe we have failed so badly to manage a simple thing like fixing a time to speak on the phone. You could possibly call me in about 7 hours' time, if it's not too late for you, because I'll be getting up then and I'm going to work from home tomorrow. Or, failing that, next weekend? I wish I could trust my phone not to mess things up, too.

Yes, three of my five top books are yours, Les liaisons dangereuses I'd been meaning to read for a while and you convinced me it was worth bumping to the top of the queue, and The Stone Canal is from lethargic_man but that's probably ultimately thanks to you too.

I'm certainly not going to forgive you for bringing lots of good books to my attention, because this is entirely a favour. Nor for being pleased about it, because you are quite entitled to be satisfied at the good thing you've done. *hug*

Happy New Year to you! I was with lethargic_man in the city to meet somebody he knew from Limmud and see the fireworks at the London eye. It was just for a few minutes. We had troubles to get back. I was running after him getting hot and sweaty. Most of the tube stations were closed. I am completely out the rythm. The main reason are the neighbours and the bashing garden door which I now found out.
