Valentines
Feb. 12th, 2007 09:08 amJust in case anyone is wondering: I'm not participating in any Valentines stuff. I haven't signed up to that Valentines postbox meme, and I am not checking any of the LJ Valentine communities. I'm not actively boycotting this kind of thing either, much less criticizing anyone who is having fun with all this business.
My opinion is that if anyone has something to tell me, they can just tell me. And if you really passionately want to send me an anonymous message, you'll just have to use a bit of imagination. Get a disposable email address, or simply notice that this journal allows anon comments.
Which sounds like I'm fishing, but I'm really not. I don't intend to send any Valentines, and I don't expect to receive any either. For those of you doing the coupley thing, I hope you have a great time, and for those of you pursuing relationships I hope things work out for you. And special love to all the bitter singles of my acquaintance, cos there are other kinds of love than the romantic kind. Here, have an anti-valentine.

Date: 2007-02-12 10:42 am (UTC)I'm mostly in favor of the "they can just tell me" approach, though I did try the steve.org.uk "LJ valentine" system when it still existed a few years ago.

Date: 2007-02-12 01:14 pm (UTC)I take anonymous comments on my journal, and my postal address is not at all difficult to find.
I don't think I'm likely to want to send an anonymous valentine, but even if I did, I'd use some method where I'd be reasonably sure that the recipient would see it, which limits the value of newspaper special ad sections and those LJ communities.

Date: 2007-02-12 04:45 pm (UTC)Well, coupley though I am, I don't particularly care for Valentine's either, so I don't buy into that. I did send The Boyfriend a letter with the envelope brimming with hand-drawn pick, red, and purple hearts on it, but I pretty much consider this part of our usual correspondence... and an act of anticipation to a possible, hypothetical proposal... hee-hee. (It feels surreal, really).
Anyway, if you want we can schedule an appointment for Wednesday (we had unconfirmed plans for Tuesday, we can shift them if you want) for which we can do shul-shopping and ordinary shopping and totally forget all about Valentine's day :-)
Just let me know.
