On 7^th April, to j4 and addedentry, a daughter, Imogen Ruth. I know that offspring don't turn out exactly like their parents, but I have great hopes for the future of a new person who may be more like Janet and Owen than most other people.

On 29^th April, my brother Screwy is holding an anti-strike as a protest against the royal wedding. So if anyone feels like attending a random philosophy seminar, let me know. Talking of cool republican stuff, you all know about the anti-wedding, anti-cuts and pro-Queer zombie flashmob, right?

I'm in Cambridge that weekend to celebrate jack's retroactive MMath graduation. I'll probably be busy most of Saturday, but might be around on Sunday if anyone wants to get together? I may or may not stay over Monday, it depends on work and transport arrangements and stuff, but I can certainly be persuaded if there are specific plans.

The following weekend (7^th May), I'm going to a housewarming party in Coventry. Does anyone want to put me and jack up in Cov / Brum Saturday night, or perhaps get together in that sort of area on Sunday?

I'm hoping to come to London one of the middle weekends in May. Speak up if you want to see me and if you have a preference. hadassah? khalinche?

I'm definitely in London the weekend of 5^th June for kerrypolka's wedding. Anyone want to get together and / or offer crash space on the Friday evening or Saturday?

I have vague plans for Stockholm in mid-June, but that depends on lots of stuff. And I don't think most of my Swedish friends read this journal anyway.

May 1^st marks the official second anniversary of Dreamwidth. This means that the three_weeks_for_dw project is in full swing from yesterday. I'm a bit behind with that stuff, but it seems to be doing pretty well without me. It's a fun fest, but seems a lot less necessary than it was this time last year, which is an encouraging sign. As you might have guessed from the above list, I'm pretty busy for the next three weeks, but I'll see if I can contribute something. I might do a FONSFAQ, perhaps on a Jewish or sciencey topic, and I might at least attempt one of the floating memes. But anyway, let me know if there's anything you particularly want me to post about and I'll see what I can do.

And last but very much not least, jack and I are getting married on Sunday 20^th May 2012. We still have lots of details to think about before we can officially invite people, but just so you know.

You're either being surprisingly lazy with words, or very unkind to two young people who don't deserve to have anyone 'anti' their choice to get married.

I am not interested in all the wedding hype but wouldn't consider taking part in anything which used their marriage day as an excuse to get on an unrelated anti-royalist band wagon; which is what I assume you mean by anti-wedding?

I'm anti the wedding not because of William and Kate choosing to get married, but because of the choice to spend tens of millions on a very ostentatious wedding, at a time when much of the country is facing major cuts to needed services and a great deal of uncertainty about their financial futures. I don't blame the royal couple for this choice, I blame the political establishment, including their handlers and including the journalists who are in the pockets of the politicos.

I'm particularly annoyed by the carefully orchestrated attempts to create a fake-spontaneous outpouring of patriotism. Although I'm fairly monarchist by inclination, I do think that anti-wedding public events are a valid response to this blatant populist manipulation. You have a point that it might upset the young couple if republican protests take place on their wedding day, but I'm reasonably complacent about that, myself.

I appreciate the sentiment, and I do intend to make some plans for after May as well. Hope you have a maximum ratio of fun to stress in the next few weeks!

Come stay at ours the night of Kerry's wedding? I haven't come up with a plan for McGonagall Night yet, but Steve and I are hoping to come to the Coventry party on May 7th, so it won't be too long til we get to see each other (for which, yay!).

Ooh, bounce, yay! Yes please, I'd love to come and stay with you the evening before Kerry's wedding. When is a good time to arrive on the Saturday? And yay seeing you at the party next week. I hope you do manage to bring Steve, that would make it even more lovely.
