Happy New Year

livIt's hard to top last year, when jack and I announced our engagement just after midnight, but the end of 2011 and beginning of 2012 have been lovely so far.
I spent Saturday morning at the synagogue where I grew up. There was a bat mitzvah, but it was still a community occasion which did all the things right that that community is particularly good at. Lots and lots of multi-part harmony which managed to be beautiful without being churchy, intellectually stimulating sermons, all that sort of thing. Then I headed tojack's for an afternoon of pottering and tidying and impromptu bridge lessons.
We went out to Relativity again for the evening. It's a bit of a default option in a way but there's always a lovely party with plenty of intelligent conversation and no loud boorishness. And it's nice to be able to walk to and from a NYE party without having to worry about where to stay. There were some very very shiny people there this year. I used the excuse to wear my gothy little black dress with some new accessories, which won me some very flattering compliments. ghoti and bugshaw and fivemack, there may have been a tiny bit of flirting (which of course led to completely reigniting the crush I've been trying to get over, but never mind).
Made it back tojack's a little after 3, which included 40 minutes of Healthful walk home. My parents expected me back in time for Sunday lunch today (no exceptions for New Year's Day), so jack very gallantly got up early to drive me home. And I was roped into helping with the jumbo crossword, no matter how little brain I had left after last night's excesses.
So it's been reasonably quiet, but a chance to spend time with people I'm fond of, which I think makes it a successful new year. This afternoon was the first time I've been online properly since 23rd December, so I'm working backwards by writing up New Year first. I'll hopefully get to the Zwischenjahr, Christmas and Chanukah soonish. But I have just about caught up with my DW reading list. Lucky that the site tends to be fairly quiet at this time of year, so it was only
I'm around in Cambridge until next weekend, working from "home", so I may be available for evening socializing. The best way to see me is probably to come to the party on Saturday (details in a locked post).
