Ugh, I have a big backlog of stuff I want to post about, and it's causing me not to post at all! Best way to break that is to start afresh and post the latest thing, which is that I'm feeling happy about Valentine's Day this year.

I have many issues with the whole VD thing, but I like setting aside time to be romantic with partners, so I often don't end up taking a principled stand against it. This year jack and I decided we needed a break from all the wedding logistics and a time just to enjoy eachother's company (which is the point of getting married, after all!) and the most convenient weekend happened to be this week.

So we had a romantic dinner and a date that was a new experience for both of us and a night in a hotel and a walk in the snow-covered countryside, and ended up in the pub debating politics with a bunch of friends. I think that's a pretty good representation of several of the good things about our relationship, crammed into half a weekend (evil geography prevented any more extended time together).

In addition to that, I received two valentines, one physical and one electronic, from people dear to me, both reminding me how much I'm a positive influence in different people's lives. And on the day I managed to chat to several of my favourite people, including a friend who is full of squee about her new relationship and her partner's romantic gestures. Another conversation involved acting as a sounding board for someone who is trying to make tough decisions; quite the opposite of hearts-and-flowers romance, but I am very glad to be able to be there for friends. My sister called me on the phone for a chat and girly gossip about wedding details, and hey, I love my sister even when fraternal love is even more eclipsed than platonic love on VD.

And I received two different emails saying that the wedding jewellery I'm buying from the internet has been dispatched, so that was pretty appropriate to the season.

And in exactly two weeks from today, we'll complete the legal formalities to make the tax system and general state bureaucracy consider us married. I'm not too too excited about that, as we've decided the real wedding will be the one that takes place in front of all our friends, but it still feels like a milestone.

I'm not at all into VD, which made the timing of a card I sent to Denmark very amusing indeed.

Will there be pictures of all these nice things (jewellery and such)?

Yes, there definitely should be pictures of the rings! My little sister has promised to bring her new shiny dSLR to the civil marriage, so hopefully she's better at taking close-up pics of rings on fingers than I am. Otherwise I will have to link to the merchants' sites, as a second-best.
