Overcommitted, moi?

I have managed to end up with only one free weekend in the first four months of the year. Um, oops?

In terms of seeing people, I'm likely to be in Cambridge weekend of 2^nd – 3^rd March. Potentially in London Saturday either afternoon / evening of 16^th March and Sunday morning, or maybe just Sunday lunchtime depending who's around. I may be in Cambridge weekend of 23^rd – 24^th March, but mainly busy with family stuff ie Passover prep, and likewise may have some limited social time in Cambridge on 20^th – 21^st April.

I had totally intended to make plans with khalinche, syllopsium, loreid, doseybat and angelofthenorth at some point in the next 2 1/2 months, only stuff happened. I still want to see all of you, and some of those weekends I'm only busy for one quarter-weekend so could well be available to host people or to travel somewhere for a short visit. If you would like to get together, whether or not you're on the list of people I already promised to see, please do talk to me before May and June get eaten up as well (I am going to be away in Bosnia in the middle of June.)

Also in Nottingham this weekend for a party that won't take up the whole weekend; do I know anyone in Nottingham or Derby? Are there any fun things you recommend me doing in either city on Sunday?

Annnnd the main thing I wanted to note is that jack and I have finally got round to booking Eastercon. Who's planning to be there? I volunteered to be a Real Live Scientist (and one who is also mostly female) on panels, no idea if they'll actually want me though.

I won't be at Eastercon this year thanks to clashing academic conferences and observing trips. Hope you have a good time!

That's a shame about Eastercon. I missed it last year because I was busy getting married, and the year before because it clashed with the bits of Passover that don't leave me much flexibility. I want to reconnect with some of the SMOFs in advance of Worldcon, as well as generally doing fun con type things, and I like cons that are in actual towns rather than airports and out-of-town hotel complexes.

I did think seriously about Picocon, but I decided I wasn't up for Saturday and / or Sunday in London when I have a commitment in Nottingham Saturday night. I might have done it if I were less desperately short of even half days for general life maintenance...

2nd-3rd March will be my birthday stuff, which (1) yay if you can be there (2) likely to have a collection of people you might want to see all in one place. Which bits of it are you free for?

Squeeee birthday! Can you let me or Jack know the details? I would love to see both you and your collection of people. My plans for the weekend are not solid yet. I want to see jack and I want to see my parents, and I'd like to squeeze in some general socializing. But those things can be done in pretty much any order, I think.

doseybat was planning something the first weekend after EasterCon but hadn't got around to sending the invites out before Madagscar. (I hope she won't mind me putting this here).

I need to make a decision about EasterCon - I bought membership back last year but haven't booked the hotel yet because I wasn't sure I was going to be well enough to travel.

Thanks for letting me know about doseybat's thing. Depending exactly what sort of something, I might be able to do it; my commitment for the weekend after Eastercon is Sunday evening, so getting up to London isn't impossible.

I really hope you are well enough for Eastercon, partly cos I don't want you to be ill and partly because it would be nice to see you. When I booked it was looking like the hotels were pretty full; the con hotel only had space for people with mobility needs, and the nearest overflow hotel was completely full. But of course if you need to leave the decision until the last minute you can likely find some unofficial accommodation if need be.

It is likely to be a Saturday afternoon and evening type of thing.

My brother lives in Bingley, so the worst case for accomodation would be me having to stay with him instead, which is an awkward commute, but if I wasn't in the con hotel then it's going to be an awkward commute anyway. I will make the decision about this next weekend, after I've seen how my return to work goes.

Coming to this rather late, but I'll be at Eastercon, and it would be lovely to see you! I'm likely to be on duty for an awful lot of the time, though, so there may not be much opportunity for more than who-was-that-masked-zebra flying hugs in passing...
