You may well be right. I fear that does make the whole thing more disturbing, but then I have a bit of an issue with using female attributions in a m / m situation.

Well, if one's talking about it as a genre, one would generally just say 'het.' But I agree that doesn't work too well in this situation, and admittedly I often say "slash" when I'm talking about het, and then get accordingly scolded by girlwithjournal. So, umm, I have no idea. On the other hand, if ixwin is right, then slash is actually a perfectly acceptable term. ;)

I'm somewhat of the opinion that people who insist on the narrow definition of "slash" should be able to immediately produce a word for the wider genre if they want anyone to pay attention.

Oh, absolutely! I don't care what the correct term is, and indeed I'm quite happy to use whatever anyone knowledgeable may propose, but insisting that a word has a specific sense only when there's no word for the general sense is just annoying.
