liv: A woman with a long plait drinks a cup of tea (teapot)

I try to avoid new year resolutions, but I've been having a January of getting round to stuff and learning new skills, and I'm hoping to continue with it. A big help was [personal profile] ceb who organized a usefulness party.

I spent the week leading up to it doing necessary prep towards being able to do useful things at the designated time. Thinking about what exactly I wanted to do, for a start. Getting my computer set up to re-start programming, and coming up with a beginner project I was actually interested in, and getting advice from my programmer partners who have been really supportive. Finding my wool and pattern to restart knitting. Doing a few rounds of Duolingo Swedish to get back into that.

At the party, I didn't manage to do the knitting because I discovered that when I took my laptop apart to fix it, I had broken the audio jack, so I couldn't listen to the video tutorial without annoying the other party guests. But I did make some proper progress with programming, and found that very satisfying. And then I came home with [personal profile] ghoti_mhic_uait and she helped me get going with the knitting.

I want to start playing recorder again; [personal profile] cjwatson got me some music for my birthday and I am excited to learn that. The other learning I'm doing is that I'm leading a reading group on the Hagaddah, starting on Tuesday. I'm quite excited about it; my little Bible reading group wanted to learn midrash, and I said, there isn't really a coherent book of midrash equivalent to a book of the Bible, so I suggested the Hagaddah. If I keep on being productive I'm going to find me some proper Torah learning for myself, and then I think that's enough stuff.

Yay Liv!

what sort of recorder music do you like?

Also, might scrabble get in on this?

Hmmm, I pretty routinely program in Python using Windows. Do you want to know about my setup, or are you happy with your own now?

Love the idea of a usefulness party, I'm now a bit stuck thinking what I could bring to one and coming up short. Perhaps something to do with my sadly long-neglected Norwegian studying.

Soundbite

Miscellaneous. Eclectic. Random. Perhaps markedly literate, or at least suffering from the compulsion to read any text that presents itself, including cereal boxes.
