liv: Table laid with teapot, scones and accoutrements (yum)
[personal profile] liv
So I had a week off work, which I spent mostly at home because I don't really feel safe travelling. But I had a really nice time and I'm most grateful to everyone who organized to spend time with me.

It was really nice to be able to spend relaxed time with [personal profile] jack and a bit more time with OSOs. We managed a fair amount of nice, low-key socializing as well. And got a chance to play more with our new Switch console.

Duplicate with [personal profile] emperor & co. Celebrating [personal profile] fivemack's birthday sitting in the garden eating cake and chatting. A call with [personal profile] hatam_soferet and hearing about her exciting PhD research and her adorable toddler. A game of Codenames with OSOs. Regular call with [personal profile] angelofthenorth which happens every week but I was more relaxed this time. Really nice chevruta learning with [personal profile] zhelana. Collaborative cryptic crossword with [personal profile] seekingferret. Sitting in my parents' garden – on a weekday even! – eating scones.

I also led a study session on the weekly Torah portion – the person who runs the group guilt-tripped the community into turning up so I had quite a big crowd, and they had lots of opinions, especially about Deuteronomy 4:2. Thursday was a fast day which I found physically hard, but I went to a moving service and reading of Lamentations on Wednesday evening, and [personal profile] cjwatson came round with the middle children and reminded me not to spend too long in the sunshine.

And we rounded off the week with a really exciting three days. We went to the beach with OSOs on Friday, driving in two separate cars to Felixstowe, and sitting carefully 2m apart on the beach. It was a weird experience, but a great treat after months of lockdown. We were outdoors the whole time, except using the public toilet, and it was busy but not crowded, so I think it was mostly infection-safe, but it was hard not to be somewhat anxious. People were in general not very good at distanced queuing, and we chose to wear masks to do so but not just for sitting on the beach. But it was still awesome to make sandcastles and find pretty pebbles (the Norfolk coast is particularly good for that) and paddle in the rather fierce surf. And introduce the baby to the sea. [personal profile] jack and I had sushi (without the fish) for our date night meal, to go with the proper seaside chips (without the fish) we had for lunch.

Saturday I attended synagogue virtually, and we spent the afternoon celebrating [personal profile] ghoti_mhic_uait's birthday, also by sitting in the garden eating cake. And Sunday was online Limmud, the Jewish learning event, with a really packed and fascinating programme, including loads of racial justice stuff as well as excellent text learning. We attended virtually but also with OSOs, so between the four of us and Judith we managed to cover quite a lot of the multiple parallel sessions. I should write some of it up before it all falls out of my head.

Soundbite

Miscellaneous. Eclectic. Random. Perhaps markedly literate, or at least suffering from the compulsion to read any text that presents itself, including cereal boxes.
