New toy!

I have finally got round to buying the digital camera I've been pining for for some months. I really, really want to go and experiment with it (not to mention the fact that the lighting outside just now is gorgeous). But my inner mother tells me very firmly: You may not play with your new toy until you have done your homework!

So instead I'm whining on LJ. And then getting back to my thesis discussion, oh yes.

There will be good light again, sometime when I'm not way behind schedule on my thesis.

It's very complicated, the camera; I couldn't just have run outside and taken half a dozen snaps, I'm fairly sure I'll need to experiment quite a lot to make it do what I want. At this moment I'm kind of regretting my decision not to stick with analogue; New Toy (it needs a better name than that, doesn't it!) is still limited in what it can do compared to even my vintage SLR and even what it can do seems more complicated than what I'm used to. But I agonized over this decision for months; I'm not going to go back on it now.

Hah. Even had I succumbed to this temptation, I couldn't have done much since the batteries were run dead flat. And I stopped working at sunset, being a good girl, by which time photography no longer seemed entirely pointful. I think New Toy knows how to take photos at night or indoors, but I want to start with normal conditions before I start trying to turn tricks.
