liv: Stylised sheep with blue, purple, pink horizontal stripes, and teacup brand, dreams of Dreamwidth (sheeeep)
[personal profile] liv
Here's the thing: a lot of people are about ready to leave LJ over the latest shenanigans. But they don't want to make the leap to Dreamwidth because, frankly, there isn't enough going on here. The site is smaller, so there are fewer posts, and fewer cool people to meet. And all their friends are on LJ, which is of course a self-perpetuating situation: if "everybody" is still on LJ, then there's a huge disincentive against moving, which means that everybody continues to be on LJ.

Lots of people have realized that the best way to address this issue is, well, creating content. Some people are organizing collective efforts to create more content. This is a great idea, except for one small problem: the people who are really good at organizing and creating content are mainly fandom. I have nothing at all against fandom, but I'm not really part of it, and I think that a lot of other people who feel similarly are being put off because they see DW as yet another clubhouse for the cool fandom kids.

But I am going to take a leaf from fandom's book: I'm going to cease sitting around complaining about how DW is too quiet. Instead I'm going to participate in creating content and drawing attention to the cool stuff that already exists. So, I propose a giant non-fandom friending meme (thanks, [personal profile] delight). If you would like find some new, interesting people to read, or make new friends, or just help highlight how much cool stuff there is on DW, please comment to this post.

You're welcome to say whatever you like, but here's a suggested template:
Your identity: doesn't have to be A/S/L, but anything that you think people should know about you to be able to decide whether they're likely to be interested in getting to know you.
What you are passionate about
How you use Dreamwidth
A link to a recent post of yours that is characteristic of your journal or writing style.
A link to a journal on Dreamwidth you think people might enjoy reading, even if they don't know the writer personally.

Footnote 1: Some people have moral or technical objections to Dreamwidth, or actively prefer LJ. That's totally cool with me – this post isn't addressed to you. I'm looking to involve people who would like to make the move, but are put off because there isn't enough to read or enough people to meet here. I am not at all proselytizing, in other words, just doing my bit to fix what I see as the biggest glaring problem with DW. Other people may see other problems, and I am not trying to fix those.

Footnote 2: If you are involved in fandom, you're extremely welcome to participate. Perhaps you'd like to meet someone who shares some of your less fannish interests. Or you are welcome to go and join in some of the more explicitly fandom-related activities going on instead.

I am going to post this now, rather than waiting until the official three-week fest, because I think now is while the iron is hot and people are motivated to move to a new site. But I'll link it again when the fest starts up on 26th April, around the one-year anniversary of Dreamwidth entering Open Beta. I don't have any strong opinions about the DW-only content thing, and you don't have to be participating in that to participate in this meme.

So, go forth and friend!

ETA: And if you like the idea, please link this post all over the place. Or make your own version, or whatever, but mainly spread the word as much as possible

I'm a British-American-Mexican bisexual woman, living in the UK and perpetually confusing myself with cross-cultural lingo. I'm in teacher training for high school science and don't have a hugest amount of free time!

I love science and pretty much everything about the natural world, and months down the line still can't get over the awesomeness of the Cave of Crystals in Mexico. OMG, people. I can while away the hours looking at pictures of space.

I'm a big sci-fi and fantasy fan, and though I don't read as much as I want to, I like to talk about what I do find.
I'll always have some sort of reaction to the shows I watch (Supernatural most regularly, but also Criminal Minds and Leverage, and I've just got into Avatar: The Last Airbender) - be it unadulterated squee, or vague disquiet.

Most of the time I game - World of darkness with a little D&D on the side - or make scrapbooks to commemorate the ending of years-long campaigns, write fiction (I'm on the third draft of one novel and currently starting another), and celebrate wholesome things like assertiveness, diversity and being nice to people. Oh, and cooking!

My dreamwidth account is about half an hour old, but I hope to use it regularly! I'm happy I've already found WTFnature (http://wtf-nature.dreamwidth.org/profile) as it is a community after my own heart.

Your identity: I'm Sasha, 26, Australian, queer/genderqueer, and generally weird(ly aweseome). Currently studying politics at uni, as well as anything that takes my interest. Eclectic Pagan and general spiritual wanderer. Very good at lurking. Have many nerdish/geeky interests, like web design, fractals, prime numbers, chemistry, genetics and a new interest in programming. Writer of fanfic for obscure fandoms few people seem to know or care about. Writer of original fiction that can be described as politically-charged queer dystopia. Writer of rambly blog posts about all sorts of things.

Avid gamer. Collector of various things. Likes cats and dinosaurs. Hasn't really grown up yet. Doesn't take life too seriously and thinks the world needs to rediscover what real fun is. Like, playing with cardboard boxes. Maybe then we'd get less srs bizniz going on.

What you are passionate about: Writing, reading, science, agnosticism and doubt, comedy, satire, sarcasm, puns, one day owning more dictionaries than John Marsden, religion/spirituality, music, politics, gender and sexuality, teh internetz, censorship, identity, and other such things.

How you use Dreamwidth: ...Er, well, I don't post that much at the moment. There's more non-fannish stuff than fannish stuff at the moment, if only because I was crossposting rambly entries from another blog and never really got into the habit of updating here with other things.

Then again, I'm not using my LJ much either right now. University drains my creative energy, so I have little energy left for blogging or writing. (It is, however, conducive to getting my assignments done, so I can't really complain.)

I'm involved in a few comms though. Dipping my toe into RPing for the first time thanks to [community profile] musing_way. Still terrified I'm Doing It Wrong. D:

My fandom involvements are mostly on LJ. They haven't moved over here, so there's not really much to get involved with here. So in a way I'm still trying to find a place here.

A link to a recent post of yours that is characteristic of your journal or writing style: O.O Er, well. Here's a rambly post about non-fannish stuff. And here's a more fannish one. I don't know if they're, well, good, but they're decent examples of how I start with the intention to write about one thing and end up somewhere else. XD

A link to a journal on Dreamwidth you think people might enjoy reading, even if they don't know the writer personally: IDK. I have far more communities than journals on my reading list so I can't really rec anyone. :(

However. Imma go look at some of the journals others have rec'd though. I need to get over my shyness in subscribing to journals. It might prod me into posting more.

I'm 26 and I'm trying to figure out what to do with my life (or at least the next few years of it). My partner and I have been together for 5 and a half years and right now we're in northern Ohio but we're going to be moving this summer (wherever she decides to go to law school)

Right now my journal looks like it's really fanish and/or full of random links, but I do post about my real life and non-fanish things. I'm passionate about feminism and lgbtq issues and pop culture in a non-fanish way, so my posts do tend to talk a lot about tv and movies and books and very occasionally music. I'm also passionate about good drinks and good food, though mainly going out for it, not cooking it. I bake more than I cook. I'm also way to into the Lego video games, which I've never talked about on DW, but I think that might give you some insight into my personality, which at times can resemble the good parts of a eight year old's. I also tend to overuse parentheses and superlatives.

DW has become a catch all for anything I feel like writing about/sharing with people, from what happened on tv last night to national politics to really random youtube vids I've enjoyed.

This is a post about a recent trip to Atlanta that my partner and I took and it's pretty indicative of how I write and what I write about when I'm not writing about tv.

More people should come play with [personal profile] havocthecat and [community profile] shes_awesome always needs new members.

Identity: Female, 30-something, married lesbian, participant in a Boston Marriage in most of the possible senses of that phrase. I do physics for a living, in particular computational fluid dynamics. greenbirds: Me and my pony, saluting in a dressage test (Flynn)
From: [personal profile] greenbirds
Your identity: [Waves] Hi, I'm greenbirds. I'm 32 years old (of age? I sure as heck don't FEEL old), totally thrilled to be female (and girly), newly -- and happily -- single, a completely non-militant vegetarian, and a biologist by training and inclination. I own a totally awesome pony named Flynn, and she is my best co-pilot in the dressage ring. I'm a SCAdian and a voice herald and (so I'm told) a damn good cook. I have three parrots who rule my life. I'm learning-disabled (NLD). As of this fall, I'll be an assistant professor at a small private college in the South. I've lived on the West Coast my whole life, so this should be an adventure!

What you are passionate about: Science, teaching, riding, my birds, really awesome food, writing fic about whatever strikes my fancy at the moment, awesomely bad movies, reading, being a court herald.

How you use Dreamwidth: I post most days, mostly just day-in-my-life stuff, though I also link to my fic and post some writing meta. My fic is an assortment of stuff, because I'm really not fandom-monogamous and never have been, but right now I'm writing mostly SG-1, NCIS, and B5, with a random smattering of Other Things I Like. I post a lot about riding, some about life as a scientist, and periodically about my houseful of birds and about my adventures with a differently-functioning brain. The more personal stuff is access-locked, but I post plenty that isn't.

A recent semi-representative post of mine: Nine Rules for Sharing Dinner With the Conure.

I think pretty much everyone reads [personal profile] synecdochic, but I love her Monday Pride Thread *so much*. It gives me a happy. :D I also love [community profile] omnomnom a lot.

Hi, I'm lia. A twenty-something, recent college grad who's attempting to find a solid place in the world. I'm not completely, one hundred percent sure what I want to do with the rest of my life, be it grad school for library science, or my itsy bitsy graphic design business. I also dabble in web design and writing. I've been writing about work a lot lately, because it seems to have eaten the rest of my life (I swear the tax humor will stop after April 15th). My family drives me a crazy sometimes, but I love them because of it. I'm a feminist/libertarian/fiscal conservative. I babble a bit, as I'm sure you can probably tell by now, and I'm incredibly absent-minded.

What you are passionate about - art of all kinds, but especially digital art and photography, books, coffee, cooking/baking (I have such a sweet tooth), fashion, feminism, history (especially cultural and gender history), laughing, multi-colored post-it notes, politics, organizing things, snail mail, softball (and baseball a bit, go Mets), theater, typography, watching movies, and, writing (you know, my not-even-close-to-great American novel, haha).

How you use Dreamwidth - I've been using DW mostly as a kind of personal journal, with lots of silly stuff as well (all this is locked). Account is half this is cheaper than therapy, and half me wanting to keep track of my life. The historian in me loves to keep records. I also use DW for archiving fandom stuff (unlocked).

A link to a journal on Dreamwidth - I've liked reading [personal profile] violet_angel, and [community profile] omnomnom is a lot of fun too.

Your identity: I'm a socially anxious introvert who speaks in robotic monotone, but means no harm by it. I'm 25-year old IT student from Finland who identifies as a non-straight female, and is also (sometimes) a writer. I'm an active consumer of fandom and that's what my journal is mostly about, but I'm hoping to expand from there. I also go by names bof and bofoddity.
What you are passionate about: Social issues, writing, history, horror, figuring out how the other human beings work. Talking about these things aloud more is a work-in-progress for me.
How you use Dreamwidth: My posting can be very uneven, but you can expect an entry at least once a month, and on some periods I post something every day. My entries tend to be short as well as heavy on the links, rantiness and emotional reactions, so I often come across as harsh. Balancing emotional honesty with tact is another work-in-progress for me.
Example post:: Here's me talking about the tone argument, me making a mini linkspam, me making a random post.
Enjoyable journal: I've been admiring [personal profile] yhlee from far for some time now. I also like my circle members very much.

I originally got a DW for non-fannish purposes, and while I've been distracted by the cross-posting function I'm still planning to do more non-fannish journaling in the future, and it would be nice to do that around new friends.

Your identity: I'm Katie. Thirty-five, cis-gendered female, asexual but recently married to a heterosexual man. I have a teenage son, and I teach middle school English. I write fanfic and original fantasy, but only sporadically :-). Agnostic, somewhat liberal, still in the learning stage about most -isms, interested in the environment and hoping it'll stick around for any grandkids I might end up having.

What you are passionate about: Writing, both fanfic and original fic. I love to talk about it, think about it, and generally avoid doing it. Raising a child with mental health issues and all the challenges that entails both on the personal front and in society/politics. Teaching. The occasional TV show, although I've been without a one true fandom for a few years now. Reading books, especially but not exclusively fantasy.

How you use Dreamwidth: So far, I haven't much, but I'm trying to change that. When I do post, I generally go on about life, the universe, and everything *g*. I talk about my daily life, books I've read, random thoughts that pop in my head, whatever.

A link to a recent post of yours that is characteristic of your journal or writing style. Um. Given how rarely I post, what's most characteristic is a lack of posts.

I am a writer. And a late twenties queer expatriate atheist/pagan (yeah I don't know) Jewish-ish white-ish technoprogressive fanboy with a four-colour heart.

I care about fiction. Adventures. Heroes and villains. Sehnsucht. People being decent to each other. Crunchy irreverence with a chewy centre of genuine feeling. Bad jokes.

I use my Dreamwidth for bizarre rambling, silly memes, venting about things that bother me (though usually this is under a filter), things I find amusing, advertising my writing and keeping in touch with cool people. I haven't been posting much interesting stuff lately, but feel free to just browse around and have a look.

You should really read [personal profile] snowsurrounded, and I’m not just saying that because she’s my housemate. She's pretty awesome.

'Ello. I'm Jay. I'm British, late 20s, white, currently able-bodied, living in Sheffield in the UK with my parents. I'm a currently female-bodied transmasculine person, closeted offline. I tend to fall in love with men but I'm celibate (possibly demi-sexual) and have been forever. I'm an introvert, depressed (unipolar) and subject to rapid changes of mood and social exhaustion, and currently unemployed (I used to work at a university; I left at the end of 2008). I went to university to study classics.

I'm most passionate about books, literature, writing, culture generally. I'm a writer. Currently that is mostly coming out in fannish activity (I write mostly for The West Wing but I'm into Top Gear, Oz, Michael Chabon novels, and anything Richard Schiff is in!) but I'm moving much more towards original writing. My goal, such as it is, is to write novels professionally. I tend towards the literary fiction end of the spectrum in style, but in genre I also love SFF, certain detective/noir writing, comics, children's literature, etc. etc.! I'm also going through the shy, sensitive, introverted boy's extended fascination with Morrissey. *g*

I'm also passionate about trans rights and gender-related goings on. I'm eager to point out at any opportunity that there isn't just the one way to be queer/trans. ;) (This also crops up as a theme in my fiction writing quite a lot lately.)

I use DW as a place to be fannish, as a place to self-analyse and get to grips with my various identities and projects, as a place to meet people and be with my friends. I post with links to interesting/'important' things every now (both fannish and not) and then. I post about the progress of my writing projects rather more often. Books and TV also get a look in every now and then. I crosspost to LJ but I'm intrigued by the possibilities of DW for picking up new, predominantly non-fannish interests and new people.

Nifty community: obvious, but [community profile] poetry is a really good place for discovering some gems you might not otherwise know about.

Identity: I'm Kayla, 20, an East-Coast-gone-West-Coast psychology major and coffee addict.
Passionate About: Social justice, particularly in the realm of survivor advocacy, gender roles, and violence prevention; the publishing industry & book commentary with an intersectional feminist lens; psychology, particularly social cognitive theory and statistical programming; dancing, especially salsa, blues, and ballroom.
How you use Dreamwidth: Most posts typically feature some sort of analysis of genre books (particularly romance and scifi/fantasy) and/or the publishing industry (ranging from what's happening in the industry today & why to the covers chosen for particular books & how they're marketed) from a feminist perspective. I used to discuss my own writing, but not so much anymore. I'm currently in the process of revamping how I use this journal. I'm hoping to turn it into less of a stream-of-conscious medium and more of a structured project.
Recent Post: My DW has been a teensy bit dead the past month, but with the conclusion of finals I am now in the midst of reviving it. Content may vary from some of what I've posted in the past, but portrayals of women in romance & the raven prince is a good example of some of the deeper analytical posts I hope to do more of and inked heroines is an example of the day to day stuff.
Link: [personal profile] shiegra leans more toward fannish meta, but she also discusses a lot of feminist issues.

Wonderful idea. Thank you for the opportunity!

(I just tried to post this and it... disappeared? Hopefully it doesn't show up twice...)

Your identity: Extremely fannish, female, bi/asexual pervert (yeah I don't know how that works either), socially awkward, chronically ill (have symptoms of CFS/fibro but no one is sure what's wrong with me,) massive anxiety issues, writer (although not very good at being one due to aforementioned anxiety issues), white and working on all those icky privilege issues (although I don't generally post about that). Incidentally, I have spina bifida, but it is a very mild case.

What you are passionate about:

- fandom, esp. SFF and anime/manga fandom;
- books and storytelling in general (mostly SFF genre, especially the more bizarre SFF - I'm obsessed with the unreal);
- bizarre and surreal things in general, especially when they cross over into real life, hilariousness a bonus;
- incense - I am EXTREMELY passionate about incense and would love to meet more people who share this obsession - whether you're just interested in enjoying it or actually making it;
- hot ladies in men's clothes. WEAPONS A BONUS. And if they are lady battle butlers I may well explode with joy.

How you use Dreamwidth: I mostly post about anime/manga related fandom things, but I also post about books and incense, and once and a while I post about ordinary life things, like food or whatever. Expect lots of manic CAPLOCKING and KEYSMASHINGS:LDKFJ:SLDKJFDS:, excessive use of the word AWESOME, blinky text, drooling over hot imaginary people, general tomfoolery, and even the occasional ~*~sparkles~*~. I am really kind of obnoxious, yes.

Occasionally I angst about my health/emotional issues, but as journaling and fandom are both primarily escapes for me, this is rare. I crosspost to my LJ at [livejournal.com profile] woodburner. I also keep a fan and original writing journal at [community profile] liminalhorizons, and an icon journal on LJ at [livejournal.com profile] liminal_icons.

Uh, I'm not sure what's characteristic of my posts, exactly, but this and this are examples of my excuse for srs bsns reviews (which is to say that I do not do srs bsns reviews and even when bowled over by artistic brilliance am more apt to digress into musing on who is banging who) and PANDAS is an example of what probably gets posted most often.

Your identity: I'm 25, queer, female, a student, hard-of-hearing, looking for a job, an atheist, trying to do/read more non-fannish things (because it seems to have taken over everything else LOL).

What you are passionate about: Tattoos, learning to cook, The Victorian Era, second-hand furniture, interior design, cops/firefighters, playing pool, ASL, cold beaches, dogs, forensic science/law enforcement, music from WWII, pin-up girls, skulls, urban farming, LGBTQ rights/politics, trying to try new things ;P

How you use Dreamwidth: I don't have that many posts under my belt but about 1/2 are just random/what's going on with me posts, the other 1/2 are fanfic posts. What you are passionate about: my shows, my riding, computers, education about trans*people

How you use Dreamwidth: primarily it's a place for me to put down things that I want to remember or sort of send them out into the ether. I've learned to not expect that other people will respond the way I think they will, so I just try to not expect anything?

A link to a recent post of yours that is characteristic of your journal or writing style: I'm really quite random, posts are usually only vaguely organized and I tend to only hit the highlights unless something is really bugging me. I don't really have anything that's typical of my style because it changes with my mood. Identity: Like it says on my profile - feminist, lesbian Christian; American-Australian dual citizen, who tends to self-refer as American but lives in Australia; pseudo-Academic, former lawyer, now library assistant, in the future, who knows. Liberal-progressive mainstream reformed Protestant with an ecumenical bent, a traditional/orthodox approach to liturgy and a liberal/progressive theology - too traditional for my own denomination and too radical for all the others. On politics and society, a bizarre combination of progressive, liberal and conservative/conventional.

And if that hasn't scared you all off...

What you are passionate about: my faith, my identity, my denomination (the Uniting Church in Australia), ecumenism, adolescent fiction/literature, reading in general, the library where I work, libraries in general, choral singing, professional cycling (watching it on television, not participating...), quilting, cross-stitching, scrapbooking/art journalling. Trying not to do to much (and not succeeding.

How you use Dreamwidth - I'm in the process of shifting across from LJ. I have a separate fannish journal, but fannishness manages to leak into this one occasionally. At the moment a) most posts are access-locked and b) I have some catching up to do with importing across. I will probably still keep a lot of things locked, as I talk a fair bit about faith, religion and vocation, and I don't necessarily want those posts linked all over the shop.

A recent-ish (last August) post I'm proud of is "Part of my story"; another would be my Thanksgiving Reflection. I have a horrible habit of forgetting to close brackets. (Some of my more recent public posts are more because of a brain'splosion re faith and identity, which for some possibly masochistic reason I haven't locked. That doesn't mean I'm *proud* of them.)

Your identity: A recovering makeshift-parent living in a house of largely-ignored crazy. I lack religion and put most of my stock in existentialist philosophy. I'm a fan, but that isn't the focus of DW for me. I like to spend time with my lover, to take long walks in nice weather, to dance in summer rainstorms, to talk about almost anything, to learn new things, to bake, to sew, to try new things, to discover, to wonder and to spend hours just thinking.

What you are passionate about: Music, movement, beauty, words, moisturizing, tea, my hair, sex, equality, games (video, board, card...), dictionaries, food, mythology, web standards, pretty things, education, learning, etymology, movies and clothes. I'm a jumble.

How you use Dreamwidth: I intend to use DW to be a vessel of thought and idea, to connect with new people, to experience new things and to share myself.

I just put together a little 'introduction to me' for my profile page, so I thought I'd just quote that here:

Who am I? I'm male, in my late 30s, tattooed, fat, starting to grey around the temples. I'm bisexual, polyamorous, probably agnostic but more likely a humanist. I feel that love is the most essential of all virtues.

I'm a writer (not my day job at the moment), occasionally of poetry and/or prose but most often at the moment a playwright, obsessed with expressing myself in the collaborative voice of a show on a stage before an audience. I'm a founding member of a theatre company I'm quite proud of. I've been heavily involved in NaNoWriMo and Script Frenzy, and I highly recommend both.

I'm a comic-book-reading, video-game-playing, action-figure-collecting, science-fiction and fantasy nerd: I'm obsessed with any number of fictional universes and fandoms, I played D&D (and Star Frontiers) and owned a VIC-20 and wrote my first webpage before there was a graphics-enabled browser anywhere on campus to let me look at the goddamn thing. My first friends had names like Heinlein and L'Engle and C.S. Lewis. I own a Godzilla costume, and I'm not afraid to use it.

I'm an open heart. I take people at their word even on the Internet, I believe that everyone should be equal and have a chance to find a beautiful life and that we have a responsibility to make that happen, I fall in love at the drop of a hat and while I do have some sense of discretion, I never apologize for the emotion. My friends are more important to me than air and I try to make sure they know this.

I'm owned by cats. I'm proudly Canadian, but I'm not giving up on the country of my birth. I'm anxious and lonely sometimes, but I'm doing better. I'm moving forward.

I only have one post on here yet, so http://inkedheart.dreamwidth.org/ works as well as anything for reading purposes, but I'll be writing a lot more soon.

And if I were to recommend anyone on DW, it'd be the wondrous [personal profile] falcongrrl. :)

Identity: Female, Canadian, teenager, writer, artist, shy, intelligent. I'm terrified of adding people or commenting, as I don't want to annoy anyone, but I'm slowly getting over that fear. I live about 50% of my life in fandom, though, so be warned. xD

Passions: Music (listening only, not creating), modeling, hairstyling, reading, sci-fi, vidding, writing, animals (especially cats).

Dreamwidth Use: I go through periods where I post every day, and then periods where I post like every two weeks. (Well, I did on my old journal anyway. So far on this one it's been almost every day since I started >_>). Most of my journal is public, except the really personal stuff. I make a lot of fandom-related posts, but also a lot of general or rl posts. I am shallow, be warned. I never make long in-depth posts about social issues or anything.

Example post: Um, I only have like 10 posts so far, and a lot of them are related to the same rl-issue, but here's one that briefly discusses homophobia: http://3darkmaterials.dreamwidth.org/1077.html
Hopefully I'll be making some more posts soon that are for a more general audience that just my friends.

My Identity: You know, I wouldn't know how to identify myself if someone handed me a mirror, but I am going to try. Best I can do is female, near 40 black chick living with friends after a nasty point in my life but I refuse to let that describe who or what I am. I cannot label myself to describe my identity because I have found I don't fit under specific labels. I just am, I guess. Am horribly shy. Oh, and my brain is a kinky thing. *g*

Passions: Sustainability, natural personal products, gardening, herbs, aromatherapy, whole foods vs processed foods, health, equal rights, writing, reading, just being. The majority of my fandom writings are NC-17.

In fandom, I am a slasher.

I am a total goofball.

Dreamwidth: I came over here because my little corner of writing fandom came over. Dreamwidth has really, really grown on me so this is where I post from, and I cross post to LJ. The majority of my posts is writing in fandom, because to be honest I don't watch a whole lot of television to be a squeeing fangirl about anything. Yet, fandom is where I found a lovely community. Trying to branch out a bit, out of my shell that I concocted for myself. Am leery about writing about personal stuff because I feel I am too boring to keep anyone's interest for long.

About me: I'm Jon. Let's see... In a nutshell, I'm male, white, American, 27, fat, queer, atheist, crazy, occasionally clever, and terminally uninspired. I'm interested in millions of things, and like to know a little bit about everything. My knowledge is not deep, but wide.

I dabble in lots of different arts and crafts, but have a hard time following through. I write but I never write. I take pictures but I never take pictures. I cook but I never cook. I write music but I never write music. I knit and sometimes I actually do knit.

I am fannish, though not involved in fandom, per se. I follow a lot of TV shows, and love movies and music and books and art. Based on other people's reactions, I think I might have strange taste.

I find myself amassing a collection of vintage cookbooks. I don't know what else to say here. You could look at my DW profile, if you're interested.

About my Dreamwidth: I'm a very bad blogger. I go for long stretches without saying anything, then I spam my friends with little non sequiturs and terrifying YouTube videos. Once in a while I'll talk about my life a bit. And occasionally, very rarely, I'll actually write a thoughtful and maybe entertaining blog entry.

I talk a lot about the things I do with my friends. I talk about the shows I'm watching. I start daily journaling projects and quit after three days.

My journal is, typically, totally friends-locked, but I'll unlock the last 20 entries so you can get a feel for what's going on recently. And then I'll go back and unlock some other stuff, if I remember to.

If you're interested and want me to give you access to the locked stuff, just let me know, and I'll be happy to do so.

Three selected journal entries:

I'd like to try you. Don't worry; I don't expect the feeling to be mutual. I'm terribly dull.

Your identity: I'm a 29 years old language teacher and translator originally from Finland, now based in the Pacific Northwest of United States.
What you are passionate about: Languages, books, science fiction from hard sci-fi to the debate of whether Star Wars counts, creating stuff myself (except babies, so far), feminism, unpacking my invisible privilege knapsack, playing the piano.
How you use Dreamwidth: I started a Dreamwidth account when the place was advertised as an artistic meeting of the minds. At the same time I started getting more into drawing, so I figured I'd start an art journal over here and keep it open for anyone to read and comment on. Mostly to motivate myself to not give up drawing. So, that's how I use it: I post what I have drawn or painted, and try to analyze my progress and hope that someone else also gets something out of my mistakes and conquests.
A link to a recent post of yours that is characteristic of your journal or writing style. I'm back!.
A link to a journal on Dreamwidth you think people might enjoy reading, even if they don't know the writer personally. I have to admit to being guilty of not using Dreamwidth much for reading others' journals - I'm hoping this meme will help me with that :)

Soundbite

Miscellaneous. Eclectic. Random. Perhaps markedly literate, or at least suffering from the compulsion to read any text that presents itself, including cereal boxes.
